Steph Atherton

Study Higher Liaison Manager

Day-to-day I help the team based in Swindon and Oxfordshire by shaping their work around the targets we have been set by the Office for Students.

More about me:

I progressed to university from an area of low participation, and studied a BA in Experimental Psychology. During my time as an undergraduate, I took up the opportunity to act as a student ambassador – this sparked a burgeoning dedication to widening participation, which I have pursued ever since!
After working to support outreach at Winstanley College in Wigan, and at the Southern Universities Network Uni Connect partnership, I first joined Study Higher as a Higher Education Liaison Officer. In this role, I thoroughly enjoyed my time working closely with schools in central and East Oxfordshire, developing and delivering sustained programmes for local students. I also helped to facilitate other outreach activities in this area, and across all the Study Higher regions.
This knowledge and experience has supported me in my progression to my current role, which allows me to shape activity and engagement with the Study Higher schools and colleges in Swindon and Oxfordshire. I am wholeheartedly committed to supporting young people by providing them with impartial advice and guidance about higher education in highly engaging, interactive, and empowering ways – and I’m incredibly proud to be part of a team who all share this vision!
In my spare time I am an Executive Director for Oxford Pride, and enjoy running and yoga (or at least, attempting to do both…!)
