Study Higher Oxford STEM Summer School

Impact

Study Higher in collaboration with its partners Oxford Brookes University and University of Oxford, organised a summer school targeted at Year 12 students.

The aim of this 3 day residential summer school was to give students a taster of university life (through both STEM related academic and team working activities) as well as the opportunity to engage and work with students from different schools across our regions.

Workshops funded by Study Higher included:

  •  Wise Up – where the students took part in a variety of practical team work exercises.
  • A visit to Oxford University which included a tour of a college and a practical Science academic workshop; learning about quantum physics and conductors.
  • Bloodhound – where students worked as a team to design and race model cars.
  • MADE Training – where students had the opportunity to develop and improve their study and revision skills.

The students spent two nights on campus and also took part in social activities such as film night, games night and bowling.

Students had the opportunity to experience life on campus, meet academics and undergraduate students, and ask questions about their career paths.

Students from across all of our regions attended the summer school and the feedback of their experience was very positive.

If you would like your students to be involved in a programme like this please get in touch with your local HELO.
