Parents’ Awareness Raising

Impact

Parents and carers have a crucial role in the decision making process for young people contemplating higher education. Many have limited awareness of the benefits of higher education, of what’s entailed with going to university, the process of applying and how to support their children to consider higher education as an option.

Joanna Ridley (HELO) has been working with Blessed Hugh Faringdon School to explore opportunities for raising awareness with parents and carers, and presented at an event, also attended by Reading University. Participating parents welcomed the opportunity to learn more about higher education and future events planned.  It was agreed that evening and/or weekend events would enable more parents to participate.

.Joanna also exhibited at a parents’ evening organised by Prospect School, which was well attended. She was able to promote the Study Higher range of publications about different aspects of higher education, which were very well received.
