Apprentifest 2022 is a series of free events to promote apprenticeship opportunities to young people in Swindon.

Apprentifest is a series of free events to promote apprenticeship opportunities to young people in Swindon. The events run over the course of a week and have been created jointly by Swindon Borough Council, Study Higher, Swindon & Wiltshire Careers Hub, Swindon & Wiltshire Institute of Technology (SWIoT) and Green Labyrinth.

Study Higher are delivering on Monday 20 June 2022 and Thursday 23 June please see below for details of each day.

Monday 20 June – Apprenticeship Festival

Where: Village Hotel Swindon, Shaw Ridge Leisure Park, Whitehill Way, Swindon, SN5 7DW

Daytime (9.15am – 12.15pm OR 12.30pm – 3.30pm)

This event is open to Year 10 and 12 students who are interested in studying an apprenticeship. Students will be able to attend a morning or afternoon session, which must be booked via the school.

Year 10 programme:

  • Welcome talk and introduction to apprenticeships
  • Applications & CV tips/hints workshop
  • Employer ‘blind date’ workshop
  • Visit apprenticeship fair (with apprenticeship providers)

Year 12 programme:

  • Welcome talk and introduction to apprenticeships
  • Applications & CV tips/hints workshop
  • Transitioning from L2/3 FT course to an apprenticeship workshop
  • Visit apprenticeship fair (with apprenticeship providers)

Things you should know:

  • Free to attend
  • Support with travel costs is included
  • Year 10 and 12 students will be at the event at the same time
  • Places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis
  • We can offer 20 x spaces for year 10 and 15 x spaces for year 12 students (although this may increase later on)

The deadline for daytime applications is 3pm on Friday 20 May

Evening (4pm – 6.30pm)

Open to parents/carers and students from any year group. There will be an opportunity to meet a number of apprenticeship employers with current vacancies. There will also be talks from apprenticeship professionals including:

  • Introduction to Apprenticeships and how to find them 
  • Apprenticeships in the NHS

 

Thursday 23 June – Engineer Your Future 

Where: Institute of Technology, New College Swindon North Star Campus

This event is open to Year 10 students with a keen interest in studying engineering when they finish school. Students will spend the day at the Swindon & Wiltshire Institute of Technology (SWIoT), and will learn about all the different routes into engineering. They will participate in a number of practical and theoretical workshops, run by BMW, University of Reading and staff at the SWIoT.

Things you should know:

  • Free to attend
  • Support with travel costs is included
  • Lunch is included
  • Places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis: initially we can offer 15 x spaces for year 10 students
