Microsoft Campus Visits

Impact

We’ve arranged several Buckinghamshire schools to visit the Microsoft Campus in the past few months. Read below to find out what a typical Microsoft Campus visit entails.

In recent months, Year 10s from The Mandeville school and Aylesbury Vale Academy had the opportunity to visit the Microsoft UK headquarters in Reading. The days were run by the Youthspark team; a group of young interns and apprentices working at Microsoft who support schools and aim to inspire young people to be digitally creative through the delivery of presentations and workshops, providing insight into the diverse career opportunities in a company such as Microsoft.

Activities of the day included;

  • A challenging Kahoot quiz on technology and Microsoft. Both students and teachers engaged and were very competitive.
  • Talks on the current and future role of social networks, and how interest in these platforms and creativity skills could lead into a career in social media marketing. Students were also introduced to data security, online privacy, and encouraged to keep personal data safe from unwanted access.
  • Interns and apprentices spoke about their educational paths and what it is like working at Microsoft.
  • Tour of the Microsoft campus facilities which ended in a visit to the Xbox area, where students had opportunity to relax and try a variety of Xbox Games, and other Microsoft devices.

Students were also inspired to be digitally creative, by using surface pro tablets in groups to program a connect BBC micro:bit device into a “Rock Paper Scissors” AI device, which they used to compete against each other in a fun and interactive way.
