Our Young Carers programme aims to raise attainment and aspiration in Year 10s with caring responsibilities. Beginning in March 2016, the progreamme ends with a univeristy residential experience in July 2016. The programme includes:
- Targeted careers advice to help with the recognition of skills developed in the caring role
- An exploration of post-16 options with impartial guidance
- Developemnt of revision and study skills to prepare for GCSEs and beyond
How the programme will run
The programme will include 4 workshops run on Saturdays. The provisional dates for these are:
- Saturday 12 March
- Saturday 16 April
- Saturday 14 May
- Saturday 11 June
- Summer residential late June
The Saturday workshops will be held at one of our partner colleges. We do not want transport to be a barrier to involvement, so we will look at providing minibuses for groups of students from across the area to take them to and from each session.
Transportation and lunch will be provided free of charge.
Who can come?
This programme is specifically designed for Young Carers. Ideally, we would like to engage with this group from across the areas we operate: Oxfordshire, Bucks, Milton Keynes, Swindon, Bracknell Forest, West Berkshire, Reading and Wokingham.
The Saturday workshop programme is limited to 30 students in Year 10.
The Summer residential will be open to a much larger group and those who have not been part of the Saturday workshops will be invited to the residential as a standalone option.
