The Spectroscopy Masterclass starts with short talks on spectroscopic and problem-solving techniques followed by an interactive workshop session. Students have the opportunity to visit the Chemical Analysis Facility and experience mass spectrometry, IR and NMR spectroscopy. After lunch, there will be a talk on chemistry-based university courses and an opportunity to learn about current research in the department.
The Masterclass is specifically for students who are interested in chemistry or a related science as a degree choice. Schools can apply to send up to 10 students, with or without a teacher, or students can apply individually. There is a deposit (refundable on attendance) of £50 per school group. No deposit is required from individual students.
